New Album: UNKLE – The Road: Part 1 (2017/08/18) / New Track ‘The Road (feat. ESKA)’

:: Hello again.

James Lavelle says:

“UNKLE has always been a multi-sensory creative project, ranging from genre-defining music to cutting-edge visual art. It therefore feels incredibly fitting to celebrate UNKLE’s past, present and future in Soho, where it all began, with an immersive show at the much-loved Lazarides. The exhibition is a collaboration between a number of very talented artists, presenting everything from paintings, videos, artefacts and film screenings; this is the definitive UNKLE experience. I look forward to welcoming visitors to daydream with us.”

New Album: Gardens & Villa – Dunes (2014/02/04) [Full Album Stream]

:: An instantaneous love affair.

I still remember how fascinated I was when I first heard Black Hills, the 2011 debut single of Californian indie pop five-piece Gardens & Villa. The following self-titled first album by the Santa Barbara guys Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Shane McKillop, Levi Hayden and Dustin Ineman is part of my all-time favourite playlist and I listen to it quite regularly. That’s why I got pretty excited when the band announced their sophomore album last December altogether with unveiling a perfect first single.

Gardens & Villa’s second LP is entitled Dunes and was released in the UK/Europe on February 03, 2014 via Secretly Canadian. North American release followed on February 04. The album is released as download, CD and limited edition 12″ magenta vinyl LP. Buy digitally via iTunes or order your physical copy at the Secretly Canadian Store.

Dunes is streaming in its entirety over at Hype Machine, give it a listen as long as the stream’s available. To me, the key tracks are Colony Glen, Echosassy and Avalanche but you definitely should check out the whole thing. The set of ten tracks was recorded by the band in snowy Michigan with producer Tim Goldsworthy. Former member of the fabulous LCD Soundsystem and co-founder of DFA Records, Goldworthy’s productions works include albums for UNKLE and Cut Copy.

Listen above to Colony Glen, the second song taken from Dunes. The excellent first single Bullet Train is streaming below where you can also check out the band’s upcoming tour dates. Gardens & Villa are on the road in the US until early March.

New Single: Gardens & Villa – Bullet Train

:: I’m thrilled by this new Gardens & Villa tune. Really looking forward to the album…

Santa Barbara’s Gardens & Villa are back with new music. The band is comprised of Chris Lynch [guitar/vocals], Adam Rasmussen [piano/synths/vocals], Shane McKillop [bass/vocals], Levi Hayden [drums] and Dustin Ineman [percussion/synths/vocals], the California guys released their eponymous debut LP in early 2011 – a record I’ve been playing in heavy rotation. That’s why it gets me pretty excited that Gardens & Villa will not only return with their sophomore album Dunes on February 04, 2014 via Secretly Canadian, but to hear that it’s also produced by DFA owner and producing legend Tim Goldsworthy who has produced records for Massive Attack (Heligoland), Cut Copy, The Rapture and Hercules & Love Affair amongst others.

Bullet Train is fabulous first single taken from Dunes, a track that gets hungry for more. I hope the album can keep up to that. Gardens & Villa will announce tour dates in support of Dunes soon, keep your ears and eyes peeled for news soon.

New Album: Fenech-Soler – Rituals (2013/09/30) [Full Album Stream]

:: This might be the best electronic pop record in a decade! Flawless & poignant in a way that only few achieve.

Still two more weeks to go till the long-awaited sophomore by Kings Cliffe’s Fenech-Soler finally drops. It has by far not been an easy one for them. They had to deal with serious illness, when Ben Duffy was diagnosed with cancer in 2011. And then they had to face those overall high expectations towards their sophomore a band has to meet when they board music scene and industry with an acclaimed debut. I’ve been listening to the new songs all morning, and there’s no doubt that Ross and Ben Duffy, Daniel Soler and Andrew Lindsay did very well. In an interview with Digital Spy, vocalist Ben has put it that way: “From everything – the songs, the producing – we’ve just tried to up our game. It pushed us to the edge, but now we can look back at it and feel happy with it.” His brother, guitarist Ross added: “The singles are probably poppier than people will be used to – ‘Magnetic’ is the poppiest thing we’ve ever written. There’s some of our biggest soundscapes but also the most delicate melodies we’ve ever made on there.”

Fenech-Soler’s second LP is entitled Rituals and is officially is self-released on September 30, 2013 (distribution by Warner Bros. Music). Since yesterday, the record is streaming entirely over at The Hypemachine. Head over and give it a listen, I’m pretty sure you’ll be falling for it – but hurry, the stream’s only available for a limited time. The set of twelve tracks was largely produced by the band themselves. On a few tracks, Fenech-Soler nevertheless chose collaboration with the likes of Tim Goldsworthy (LCD Soundsystem, Massive Attack) and the brilliant, rising Swedish producer and DJ Style of Eye. In a press release, Ben talks about the character of Rituals: “I think the pop element is certainly something that wasn’t calculated, but also something that we didn’t decide to turn our back on. … For us, it’s been about paying attention to what makes a good song and about being direct. We haven’t been afraid to make a pop record. It’s about connecting with people on a universal level while remaining true to our dance roots.

The record will available as digital download, CD and LP, pre-order Rituals via iTunes. Watch above the Luke Monaghan directed official video for Last Forever, the new and second single off Rituals, and check out the bouncing album track Somebody. It follows the lead single Magnetic that was released on July 01, watch the video for it here. You can still sownload the fantastic teaser track Maiyu for free via the band’s Soundcloud, listen to the song below. Fenech-Soler will embark on a UK + Ireland headline tour in November.
