New Album: Fleet Foxes – Crack-Up (2017/06/16) / New Track ‘Third of May / Ōdaigahara’

:: Long-awaited and highly anticipated! So good to hear them back with Third of May.

.

Fleet Foxes will release Crack-Up, its long-awaited and highly anticipated third album, June 16 on Nonesuch Records. Crack-Up comes six years after the 2011 release of Helplessness Blues and nearly a decade since the band’s 2008 self-titled debut. Fleet Foxes has released the album track “Third of May / Ōdaigahara,” a nearly nine-minute epic powered by piano and electric twelve-string guitar, string quartet, and the group’s trademark sparkling harmonies. In addition, the band has announced new tour dates, including their first North American shows since October 2011; see below for details. Crack-Up pre-orders are available now from iTunes and in the Nonesuch Store, where “Third of May / Ōdaigahara” may be downloaded instantly; you can watch the lyric video for the track, created by Sean Pecknold and Adi Goodrich, below. Nonesuch Store pre-orders of the album also include an exclusive, limited-edition print featuring artwork by Hiroshi Hamaya.

All eleven of the songs on Crack-Up were written by Robin Pecknold. The album was co-produced by Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset, his longtime bandmate, collaborator, and childhood friend. Crack-Up was recorded at various locations across the United States between July 2016 and January 2017: at Electric Lady Studios, Sear Sound, The Void, Rare Book Room, Avast, and The Unknown. Phil Ek mixed the album, at Sear Sound, and it was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. Fleet Foxes is Robin Pecknold (vocals, multi-instrumentalist), Skyler Skjelset (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Casey Wescott (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Christian Wargo (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), and Morgan Henderson (multi-instrumentalist).

Fleet Foxes’ self-titled debut made a profound impact on the international musical landscape, earning them Uncut‘s first ever Music Award Prize, and topping numerous “Best of ” lists, including Rolling Stone‘s 100 Best Albums of the 2000’s and Pitchfork‘s 50 Best Albums of 2008. Fleet Foxes is certified Gold in North America and Platinum in both the UK and Australia. The follow-up album Helplessness Blues was met with the same critical praise as its predecessor (MOJO five stars, Rolling Stone four stars, Pitchfork Best New Music); that album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, went Gold in the UK, and earned the band a Grammy nomination. New Album: Perfume Genius – Too Bright (2014/09/22) [Full Album Stream] / New Single ‘Grid’ [Official Video]

:: An exquisitely crafted album!

Nearly three years have passed since Mike Hadreas aka Perfume Genius released his sophomore LP Put Your Back N 2 ItBut the waiting’s over now, the Seattle based singer/songwriter is about to release his third album Too Bright next week, but you can listen to the entire thing already now.

Too Bright drops officially in the UK/Europe on September 22, 2014 via Matador Records. North America sees release of the album the day after (September 23). The LP will be available as download, CD and 12″ signes gold vinyl LP. You can buy digitally from iTunes or order your physical copy of Too Bright directly from Recordstore.

The album is streaming in its entirety above (via the Perfume Genius Soundcloud). Perfume Genius recorded the set of eleven songs in Bristol together with Adrian Utley of Portishead and engineer/producer Ali Chant. NPR premiered the album stream for the US a few days ago, you can learn more about Too Bright in accompanying feature.

Grid is the second single taken from Too Bright. The song comes with an excellent music video directed by Charlotte Rutherford, watch it above. The video fits in the thematic pattern of the album on which Hadreas recently commented in a press release to be the following: “A lot of these songs are me trying to claim some power in situations that would typically depress or alienate or victimize me.  Also, no matter how good I feel there is a darkness hanging, which I don’t agree with – giving it a voice is an attempt at freeing it so it can potentially dissipate.”

Perfume Genius is touring the US in September/October (including one show in Toronto, Canada) and Europe in November. You can check out the upcoming dates below and watch the official video for the album’s first single Queen. The clip is directed by Cody Critcheloe aka SSION.
