New Album: Björk – Vulnicura (2015/01/21) / New Track ‘Atom Dance’ [feat. Antony Hegarty]

:: Definitely not an easy listen, but a growing and rewarding one!

A week ago, Björk released her ninth studio album two months early after it had previously been leaked on the internet. As a reaction, the Icelandic artist and her London-based label One Little Indian decided to to drop the album early digitally. The follow-up to 2011 Biophilia is entitled Vulnicura, which means cure for wounds [latin: vulnus + cura]. Talking to French site Les Inrockuptibles, Björk said: “It’s about what may come to a person at the end of a relationship. It talks about the dialogues we may have in our heads and in our hearts, the healing processes.

Vulnicura was surprisingly released on January 21, 2015 via One Little Indian Records (Germany via Embassy of Music). Right now, the album is available as digital download only, you can grab your copy from iTunes. Physical release on CD and 12″ vinyl will go as planned later on March 30.

Venezuelan producer Arca aka Alejandro Ghersi produced six of the songs on Vulnicura and co-wrote two of them with Björk. He most recently  collaborated with FKA Twigs and Kanye West on Yeezus. British producer Bobby Krlic aka The Haxan Cloak also contributed production to Vulnicura and mixed the album.

Upon the announcement of the earlier album release, Björk wrote on her Facebook: “i guess i found in my lap one year into writing it a complete heartbreak album . kinda surprised how thoroughly i had documented this in pretty much accurate emotional chronology …. like 3 songs before a break up and three after . so the anthropologist in me sneaked in and i decided to share them as such . first i was worried it would be too self indulgent but then i felt it might make it even more universal . and hopefully the songs could be a help , a crutch to others and prove how biological this process is : the wound and the healing of the wound . psychologically and physically . it has a stubborn clock attached to it .

Listen above to Atom Dance featuring vocals via Antony Hegarty from Antony and the Johnsons. Quicksand, my favourite track from Vulnicura, is streaming below. Björk will play a series of seven exclusive shows in New York in March, April and June. She conformed that Arca will play with her on selected dates, check out the schedule below.

:: So so beautiful!

In The Silence Deluxe Edition is officially released today (November 24, 2014) via One Little Indian Records. The album is available as Triple Pack CD and digital download. You can buy digitally from iTunes and Google Play or order your physical copy directly from One Little Indian.

The 3 CD ‘Deluxe Edition’ comprises the original 2012 Icelandic version of the album, Dyrd í dauðathogn – the most succesfull album by an Icelandic artist of all times which instantly made Ásgeir a folk hero back home – plus the English-language version, In The Silence, translated by singer/songwriter John Grant who currently lives in Iceland. The third CD compiles rarities and previously unheard Ásgeir material including remixes from Liam Howe (FKA Twigs, Lana Del Ray, Foxes), Dot Major (London Grammar) and Stay Positive as well as three versions from Ásgeir’s Toe Rag Sessions.

It Will Rain is taken from the third disc of the Deluxe Edition, listen above. Two weeks ago, So So Gay premiered the stunning electric piano version of Ásgeir’s international debut single King and Cross. This quiet new version was recorded and filmed at Studio Hljóðriti in September 2014. The video was shot by Ívar Kristján Ívarsson and is edited by Guðm. Kristinn Jónsson, watch it below. :: In The Silence is finally here. Listening feels like dreaming away, it’s absolutely wonderful.

After two delays of the scheduled release date, it’s finally time now for the English debut full-length by 21-year-old Icelandic musician Ásgeir Trausti Einarsson. In 2012, his domestic debut Dyrd í dauðathogn became the fastest-selling and most successful debut album by a homegrown artist in Iceland’s music history, outselling even names such as Björk and Sigur Rós. Nearly ten percent of the country’s population own a copy of the triple platinum record.

The poetic lyrics of the songs are mostly written by Ásgeir’s 72-year-old father. Distinguishably influenced by hip-hop, the music moves beyond folktronica with its very own combination of organic and electronic elements. Dyrd í dauðathogn and In The Silence are produced by Gudmundur Kristinn Jonsson. The original Icelandic lyrics were translated into English by the fantastic US singer/songwriter John Grant who currently calls Iceland his home. For the English version if the album, only the vocals were re-recorded – both records are musically identical.

In The Silence is released on January 27, 2014 via One Little Indian Records. The album is released as download, digipack CD and 12″ vinyl LP. You can buy digitally via iTunes or pre-order your physical copy in the One Little Indian WebstoreIn The Silence is now exclusively streaming at The Guardian, head over and check it out as a whole. I’m sure you won’t regret.

Torrent is the second single off In The Silence, listen to it above or watch the official video here. Ásgeir will play a string of European concerts in the next months, including five Asian shows in February. Check out the touring schedule below and listen to his English debut single King and Cross.

:: This one is glowing magic.

Here we go with the second single taken from the upcoming international debut album by Icelandic singer/songwriter Ásgeir Trausti. The release date of In The Silence has been postponed several times and is now ultimately set for January 27, 2014 via One Little Indian Records.

Ásgeir’s fantastic debut single King and Cross was already released back in August. It’s now followed by Torrent, the second track taken off In The Silence. The song comes with a music video portrait directed by Jónatan Grétarsson, listen and watch it above.

Debut Single: Ásgeir – King and Cross (2013/08/12) [Official Video]

:: Had this one on heavy rotation play for weeks now. Fantastic song!

King and Cross is the title of the (English) debut single of Icelandic singer and songwriter Ásgeir Trausti who simply uses his first name as stage moniker. At the age of just 21, he has managed what most artists can only dream of: releasing a platin album in Iceland, written and recorded in his mother tongue.  His debut LP Dyrd í dauðathogn is owned by almost 10 percent of Iceland’s population, making him as known in his domestic music scene just as Iceland’s major artists – Björk, Sigur Ròs or Emiliana Torrini. Quite a good starting point for an international approach. The songs on the record were translated by none other than the fabulous John Grant. He’s currently living in Iceland himself and owns the impressing ability to quickly (and perfectly) adopt the language of a country he moves to. Ásgeir’s album will be released wolrldwide as In The Silence this autumn. watch out for more news soon.

The single as first herald of the LP is released on August 12, 2013 via One Little Indian Records. It comes with the beautiful b-side Lupin Intrigue and will be available in physical and digital formats. Preorder your copy here. Ásgeir is playing a bunch of European festivals in the next weeks, and he’s still on the road supporting Of Monsters and Men on their European tour. Check out the upcoming dates below and listen the b-side.

In February this year, Ásgeir recorded three tracks live and acoustic at Toe Rag Studios in London. (The music is written by Ásgeir, the lyrics are by John Grant after original lyrics in Icelandic by Einar Georg Einarsson.) The Toe Rag Acoustic Sessions was released on May 14 via Bandcamp where you can download it for free in return for your email, but you can listen to the songs below.
