New Album: Fleet Foxes – Crack-Up (2017/06/16) / New Track ‘Third of May / Ōdaigahara’

:: Long-awaited and highly anticipated! So good to hear them back with Third of May.

.

Fleet Foxes will release Crack-Up, its long-awaited and highly anticipated third album, June 16 on Nonesuch Records. Crack-Up comes six years after the 2011 release of Helplessness Blues and nearly a decade since the band’s 2008 self-titled debut. Fleet Foxes has released the album track “Third of May / Ōdaigahara,” a nearly nine-minute epic powered by piano and electric twelve-string guitar, string quartet, and the group’s trademark sparkling harmonies. In addition, the band has announced new tour dates, including their first North American shows since October 2011; see below for details. Crack-Up pre-orders are available now from iTunes and in the Nonesuch Store, where “Third of May / Ōdaigahara” may be downloaded instantly; you can watch the lyric video for the track, created by Sean Pecknold and Adi Goodrich, below. Nonesuch Store pre-orders of the album also include an exclusive, limited-edition print featuring artwork by Hiroshi Hamaya.

All eleven of the songs on Crack-Up were written by Robin Pecknold. The album was co-produced by Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset, his longtime bandmate, collaborator, and childhood friend. Crack-Up was recorded at various locations across the United States between July 2016 and January 2017: at Electric Lady Studios, Sear Sound, The Void, Rare Book Room, Avast, and The Unknown. Phil Ek mixed the album, at Sear Sound, and it was mastered by Greg Calbi at Sterling Sound. Fleet Foxes is Robin Pecknold (vocals, multi-instrumentalist), Skyler Skjelset (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Casey Wescott (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), Christian Wargo (multi-instrumentalist, vocals), and Morgan Henderson (multi-instrumentalist).

Fleet Foxes’ self-titled debut made a profound impact on the international musical landscape, earning them Uncut‘s first ever Music Award Prize, and topping numerous “Best of ” lists, including Rolling Stone‘s 100 Best Albums of the 2000’s and Pitchfork‘s 50 Best Albums of 2008. Fleet Foxes is certified Gold in North America and Platinum in both the UK and Australia. The follow-up album Helplessness Blues was met with the same critical praise as its predecessor (MOJO five stars, Rolling Stone four stars, Pitchfork Best New Music); that album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard Top 200, went Gold in the UK, and earned the band a Grammy nomination. New Album: Sam Amidon – Lily-O (2014/09/30) [Full Album Stream]

:: The most beautiful collection of songs. Listen to the entire album now!

Vermont-born singer/fiddler/banjoist/guitarist Sam Amidon has returned with his fifth studio album Lily-O last weeks and it’s absolutely wonderful. The collection of reimagined folk songs follows last year’s Bright Sunny South which had been Amidon’s first release after signing with Nonesuch Records.

Lily-O was officially released in North America on September 30, 2014 via Nonesuch Records. UK/Europe saw release on September 29, Germany/Austria/Switzerland follow only on November 07. For now, the album is available as download and CD. Physical release on 12″ vinyl LP follows on October 27. CD and LP include mp3 download. You can buy digitally from iTunes or order/pre-order your physical copy of Lily-O directly from Nonesuch Records.

The album is streaming in its entirety over at Spotify. Check it out, Lily-O is absolutely beautiful! Above, you can listen to the album opener Walkin’ Boss. Sam Amidon is currently touring North America with his band, check out the upcoming dates below.

Amidon’s versions of ten mostly traditonal folk songs from varying sources were recorded in Greenhouse Studios in Reykjavik together with producer Valgeir Sigurðsson (Björk, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Feist), jazz guitarist/composer Bill Frisell as well as Sam’s frequent collaborators, bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Chris Vatalaro.

In a label press release, Amidon said of the recording: “I decided to put us all in a room together in Reykjavik for a few days,” Amidon said. “I knew if I got Bill together with those guys they would get into a deep situation. I imagined that we would do something weird and fiddle-based, but when we got in there it just felt great to sing the songs I had gathered. Recording took about four days. I’d teach them the basic structure of the song; we’d do a few takes, and move on to a new one. There’s maybe one or two overdubs but otherwise you’re hearing what we played.”
