James Lavelle says:

“UNKLE has always been a multi-sensory creative project, ranging from genre-defining music to cutting-edge visual art. It therefore feels incredibly fitting to celebrate UNKLE’s past, present and future in Soho, where it all began, with an immersive show at the much-loved Lazarides. The exhibition is a collaboration between a number of very talented artists, presenting everything from paintings, videos, artefacts and film screenings; this is the definitive UNKLE experience. I look forward to welcoming visitors to daydream with us.”

New Album: Moby – Innocents (2013/10/01) [Full Album Stream]

:: A collection of wonderfully quiet and withdrawn songs!

Yesterday saw official worldwide release of the new album by Los Angeles-based multi-talent Richard Melvin Hall bka Moby. His eleventh studio recording is entitled Innocents and hit the shelves on October 01, 2013 via Moby’s own Little Idiot imprint (Mute Records). Moby claims the set of twelve tracks to be a record of firsts for him: for the first time, Moby worked with an outside producer on Innocents, friend Mark “Spike” Trent whose best known for his work with the likes of Madonna, U2, Muse, Björk and Massive Attack. Innocents also is the first Moby record fully concentrated on collaboration with other artists: the songs feature guest performances of Cold Specks, Wayne Coyne, alternative rock legend Mark Lanegan, Skylar Grey, indie folk singer Damien Jurado and Inyang Bassey who already contributed vocals for The Right Thing from Moby’s previous LP Destroyed. When he announced the release on July 01, Moby explained what Innocents means to him: “I spend most of my time alone in my studio, so for Innocents it seemed like a really nice idea to involve other people in the making of the record.  Working with all of these collaborators has helped me to make a record that I’m very proud of, and working this way also gave me some semblance of a social life…

Innocents is streaming in its entirety below (via Moby’s Soundcloud). The album is available as digital download, CD, LP, Deluxe 2xCD and Deluxe 2xLP. The Deluxe Editions features a six-track Bonus EP ‘Everyone Is Gone’. Buy the digital album via iTunes or order your physical copy in Moby’s Webstore.

Watch above the official video for The Perfect Life. The second single taken off Innocents is a collaboration with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. The clip directed by Evan Bernard was shot in L.A. and features Moby and Coyne dressed as Mariachis leading a group of strangers of all kinds trough the city streets. Talking to Rolling Stone, Moby explained how his collaboration evolved:  “Wayne Coyne and I ended up doing a duet on ‘The Perfect Life’: we sing the choruses together, and then go back and forth on the verses. Wayne and I first met in 1995, when The Flaming Lips and I were both opening up for a Red Hot Chili Peppers’ European tour. We became friends, shared a dressing room and the same bad craft services, and watched the Chili Peppers from the side of the stage. I thought of Wayne for this song because The Flaming Lips have evolved in this very open, celebratory band when they play live, and that was the perfect vibe for what I was imagining for ‘The Perfect Life.’ I texted Wayne and said, ‘Hey, I have a song – want to sing on it?’ Thirty seconds later, he texted me back: ‘Yes, send it to me, it will be great.’

As Moby’s known to be not a big fan of elaborate touring, he has only three L.A. shows coming up. He will play Fonda Theatre today and the next two days and the shows will feature the entire collaborative cast of Innocents.
