New Album: UNKLE – The Road: Part 1 (2017/08/18) / New Track ‘The Road (feat. ESKA)’

:: Hello again.

.
.
James Lavelle says:

“UNKLE has always been a multi-sensory creative project, ranging from genre-defining music to cutting-edge visual art. It therefore feels incredibly fitting to celebrate UNKLE’s past, present and future in Soho, where it all began, with an immersive show at the much-loved Lazarides. The exhibition is a collaboration between a number of very talented artists, presenting everything from paintings, videos, artefacts and film screenings; this is the definitive UNKLE experience. I look forward to welcoming visitors to daydream with us.”

New Album: Thundercat – Drunk (2017/02/24) / New Single ‘Show You The Way’

:: Yes! Yes! Yes!

Thundercat will release his third full-length studio album “Drunk” on 24th February 2017 via Brainfeeder. The album is a 23-track epic journey into the often hilarious, sometimes dark mind of the Grammy-winning singer/bassist and finds a few of his friends joining him along the way including: Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Michael McDonald, Kenny Loggins, Wiz Khalifa, Kamasi Washington and Brainfeeder mastermind Flying Lotus. “Drunk” is the follow up to his widely praised 2015 mini album “The Beyond / Where The Giants Roam”, and features fan favourite tracks ‘Bus In These Streets’ and ‘Them Changes’.

‘Show You The Way’ is the first single from “Drunk”, and the ballad features two of Thundercat’s heroes: iconic musicians Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. And how did this collaboration come to be? Thundercat mentioned his love of Loggins several times during his press tour for “The Beyond…” (Dinner Party Download, Billboard), leading to an introduction via his keyboard player Dennis Hamm. He tells Red Bull Music Academy Daily: “These are guys that I’ve listened to and where I felt that I’ve learned that honesty in the music. Kenny Loggins is one of my favourite songwriters.” Loggins was the one that suggested bringing McDonald in on the track and, Thundercat adds: “I think one of the most beautiful moments was realising how amazing Michael McDonald is. He would go through so many ideas and have so much to offer.”

Thundercat also notes: “That song to me is about going down the rabbit hole, taking you to another place… On the edge of dark, there’s the brightest light. It means a lot to me in the sense of… the experience that I’ve had growing up with friends and people that I’ve been around where it’s inviting them into where I come from emotionally. Sometimes it’s a pretty intense thing. The point is how weird things can get. I feel like it’s very funny that, in a way, of course Michael McDonald and Kenny would be there.”

The album title, like the rest of the album, is meant to be both humorous and serious. “I’ve always tried to hold true to what Erykah Badu and Flying Lotus told me: It has to come from an honest place. I feel like it’s a place that I’ve been in different ways, seen different angles of and it’s been a bit inspirational – the drinking,” he tells RBMA Daily. “It has its ups and downs and everything, but I felt like it showed the human side of what goes on behind things, something that I see with all of my friends… I felt like it was kind of interweaved in the music culture. And it’s something that’s never talked about.” [Press release via Ninja Tune]

Listen: Uffe – From Me / New Album ‘No!’

:: One to put a smile on your face!

.

Danish producer Uffe Christensen returns to Tartelet Records with his second LP ‘No!’, a deeply personal LP to follow 2015’s unanimously unfuckwithable debut ‘Radio Days’. Every bit as abundant as his first, it’s a record that scales polyrhythmic percussion, improvised jazz, & billowing ballads. This, that and so much more, it’s a triumph of one man’s instinctive ear –– and should be consumed in one sitting.

A year after his dynamic debut ‘Radio Days’, Uffe resurfaces on Tartelet with a record cut in the same spirit as the last: a borderless approach to music-making with organic instrumentation at its heart. Genres collide peaceably ––off-beat soul with jazz, hip-hop with the heft of house––and are melded smooth with an earthy warmth. Like nearly all at camp Tartelet, he’s a producer who is more interested in cutting loose than playing to the tune of dominant modes in dance music. In that, his album’s title is instructive: a ‘no’ to the tyranny of trends, to slavish Facebook likes, to creative compromise. Beyond the babble of fleeting fads, Uffe enjoys his place on the perimeter –– an outlier searching critically for something closer to a timeless groove.

Uffe has all of the intuition of the self-taught instrumentalist, following his ear into unexpected rhythmic and tonal combinations. It’s what gives the album its urgent appeal: the sound of tentative experiments being made live, of sequences improvised amongst friends. Far from a churn of simple floor fodder, the album is a journey through a consummate narrative. Shy guitar interlude ‘Fridge Magnet Radio Theme’ feels its way out of the warbling jazz breakdown in ‘Lesser Known Values’. ‘The Fact’, an unexpected vocal ballad, follows the broken beat of ‘Solo, So Loud’. With the record’s pleading closer ‘From Me’, it’s a story with a start, middle, and end. A long player as long players should be.

As Tartelet continue their run of consistently solid EPs & 12″s, it’s still these album moments that remain the best gateways into the label’s distinctive sound. Alongside Max Graef’s debut ‘Rivers of the Red Planet’ and Glenn Astro’s ‘Throwback’, Uffe’s ‘No’ is a mirror to the Tartelet spirit and sits amongst the imprint’s best. For lovers of the true album –– the full-length proper, the one-take listen –– this one’s for you. [Press Release via Bandcamp]

New Album: Electric Wire Hustle – The 11th Sky (2016/09/30) [Full Album Stream]

:: The long awaited 3rd studio album ‘The 11th Sky‘ is out!

.

Following on from the release of the award winning Love Can Prevail, Electric Wire Hustle release their third album, The 11th Sky. Continuing on with the surreal storytelling first seen on the Aeons EP, The 11th Sky shows an act further pushing the boundaries of conventional genres, and their own sound. Electronic beats, smooth vocals, and driving synths are punctuated throughout a release which features Mara TK at his strongest as a songwriter.

Expanding on their psychedelic/soul-sound, the album is best described as “David Lynch meets Motown”. Across nine tracks, the album shows a new evolution to Electric Wire Hustle’s sound, while maintaining the hallmarks which have garnered them critical acclaim and fans across the globe – unique production, and the inimitable voice of Mara TK.
