:: Totally spellbound by this new Löffler release. Calm and melancholic electronic songs that unfold their full effect when listened to the album as a whole..
Nearly two years have passed since Christian Löffler released his ravishing full-length debut A Forest, a record which I still listen to very often. The album’s success earned the Cologne-based dj, producer and KI-label co-founder a busy touring schedule performing at clubs and festivals all over the world during the past two years. Löffler’s new album Young Alaska is a reflection on his experiences on the road, the songs are mainly inspired by these journeys and the places visited.
Young Alaska was released in Germany/Europe on April 21, 2014 via KI Records [KI-012]. North American release is distributed by Thrill Jockey. The set of eight songs is available as download, CD and 12″ vinyl LP. You can buy digitally from iTunes or order your physical copy from the KI Store.
Listen above to Veiled Grey, the second track unveiled off Young Alaska. You can download Veiled Grey completely for free from CMJ. The album song Beirut sees Löffler once again collaborating with Me Succeeds lead vocalist Mohna who had contributed vocals to A Forest before. The autobiographical journey of Young Alaska sees Löffler refining his very own sound even further.
The new album also features another collaboration between Christian Löffler and Danish vocalist Gry (Gry Noehr Bagøien), the two already had worked together on Löfflers debut album. Entitled All Comes, the song was the first single taken from Young Alaska (released as 7″ single on February 24 via KI). It comes with an official video directed by Christian Löffler. The clip was shot at the beautiful village of Ahrenshoop at the Germany Baltic Sea, watch it below.

:: Slightly different, but recognisably Dillon. Frail and demanding, beautifully minimalistic songs!
Have you also been banned by the spell of Dillon’s deeply atmospheric live performance before? Ever since her 2011 debut and my first of her live shows I’m a big fan of the Brazilian-born pianist, indie electronic musician and chanteuse Dillon. It had become very quiet around her since she was working on her highly anticipated sophomore full-length, which has know finally arrived.
The Unknown was released in Germany yesterday (March 28, 2014) via BPitch Control. Official European release follows on March 31. The album is available as download, CD and 12″ vinyl LP. You can buy digitally on Beatport (mp3/wav/aiff) or order your physical copy directly from BPitch.
Dillon wrote the twelve songs of The Unknown between May and November 2013. Whereas music and arrangements on her debut This Silence Kills were mostly laid out before recording, The Unknown came about in another, conceptual approach. The foundation of the LP was recorded in three weeks time at Cloud Hill Recordings in Hamburg, and as This Silence Kills before, Dillon’s new album is produced by Thies Mynther (Phantom Ghost, Stella) and her stage collaborator Tamer Fahri Özgönenc. In a press note, Dillon comments: “I didn‘t see any sense in working with someone else. Back then we began a dialogue that, in my eyes, was never concluded.”
In this context, Dillon’s second album can also be understood as sequel to her debut. But most importantly, she herself understands her work in a lyrical way: “I wrote poems. For me these are all poems I‘m singing. The album is more like a book of spoken words and pictures than an album in the classical sense.”
A Matter Of Time is the lead single off The Unknown. The song comes with an official video produced and directed by Robin Baum & Malo, watch it above. Dillon is already out on the road touring Europe with The Unknown. You can check out the upcoming dates below and listen to a preview of the entire album. You Cover Me was the first track unveiled off the Unknown. It’s also streaming above and can still be downloaded for free via the label Soundcloud.

Roosevelt is the moniker of Cologne-based electronic producer and dj Marius Lauber. In late 2012, he had released his fantastic debut single Sea via Berlin- and London-based electro label Greco-Roman – home of Joe Goddard, Totally Extinct Dinosaurs and Disclosure. Unfortunately not to be embedded, but listen to Sea here. The song is also featured on Roosevelt’s debut EP Elliot, that was released digitally on August 19, 2013 via Greco-Roman. Physical release on 12″ vinyl will follow on October 07. Last Tuesday, Roosevelt announced that the EP will also be released in Australia and New Zealand, on September 20 and via the fabulous Future Classic label.
