:: A record that’s got some pretty great songs on it!
Backspace Unwind was officially released on October 13, 2014 via Strata Music / Butler Music. The album is available in four different formats: Standard 10-song album CD, Limited Edition double CD containing the full LP plus 10-song live show featuring the Amsterdam Sinfonietta Orchestra. Vinyl lovers can buy Backspace Unwind as Gatefold Heavyweight 12″ featuring an extra song unavailable elsewhere (the piano version of As Satellites Go By) and including album CD. The digital download version of the LP contains two songs unavailable on standard CD. You can buy digitally from iTunes or order your physical copy of Backspace Unwind here (CD/vinyl).
Lamb recorded most of the album at Barlow’s studio The Lookout in England’s South Downs. The also did a writing trip to Goa, India, and spent some at Distillery Studios near Bath. On their website, Lou Rhodes says of working on Backspace Unwind:
“Making this album has been a journey of discovery in so many ways. After making music together over a period of almost 20 years (with a 5-year hiatus to take a breath) it’s reassuring that new routes and approaches seem to abound. Over those years I think we’ve learnt that this journey needs no map; in fact tearing that map up, at every twist and turn, has become our regular gleeful practice.
Title track Backspace Unwind was one of the first songs written for the album and listening now the words seem to describe the beginning of that process. In reality I don’t really know where they came from. I guess it was all about the feeling of starting a whole new venture; taking what had gone before and making something new. Our Fear of Fours-selves would’ve been terrified by the unashamedly dance-floor high-hat but these days it’s all about breaking even our own preconceptions.”
We Fall In Love is the fabulous first single taken from the LP, listen above. Lamb are extensively touring Europe from next week (until mid December) and they’ll be playing a string of six shows in Australia and New Zealand in February 2015. You can check out the upcoming dates below and listen to my album favourite Nobody Else and a live piano demo version of As Satellites Go By.
