:: Don’t know what exactly I was expecting, but it was something different I guess. Positively surprised by Dangerous Days and the new Zola Jesus sound. Really looking forward to the album now.
About a month ago, American singer/songwriter Nika Danilova, better known by her stage name Zola Jesus, announced her fourth studio effort Taiga for release in October and unveiled with Dangerous Days the first song off of it. Taiga is the follow-up to Danilova’s brilliant 2011 LP Conatus and and last year’s Versions, an album of orchestral reworks of all Conatus songs. On her new album, Zola Jesus seems to turn towards magnificent pop music, but listen yourself.
Taiga will drop officially in Germany/Australia on October 03, 2014 via Mute Records. UK/European release follows on October 06, North America on October 07. Pre-order links are up now: The album will be available as digital download, CD and 12″ vinyl LP. You’ll also receive Dangerous Days instantly when you pre-order Taiga. The album trailer is streaming below.
On occasion of the album announcement, Zola Jesus explained the album title on mute.com: “Taiga is the Russian name for the boreal forest. For me it feels very alive… very expansive. It represents a feral, untapped world that could happily exist without us. There are taiga forests in Northern Wisconsin where I was raised, and also in Russia where my ancestors are from, so it also feels very native.”
Zola Jesus will be touring worldwide in October and November. You can check out the dates below and order your tickets from Zola Jesus website.
