:: Have been listening to this album over and over again and I’m not growing a bit tired of it!
Edinburgh’s alternative rockers Broken Records have a new album out and it’s absolutely brilliant. The band that was originally founded in 2006 as three-piece by brothers Jamie and Rory Sutherland with Ian Turnbull underwent quite a few lineup changes in the past years. Members came and went away again, and the band – formerly signed to 4AD – wanted to release their new album themselves. Maybe that’s why it took four years for the long-expected follow-up to Broken Records acclaimed 2010 sophomore LP Let Me Come Home to come. But now, Weights & Pulleys is here and you can listen to it in full.
Weights & Pulleys was officially released worldwide on May 19, 2014 via the band’s own label J Sharp Records Ltd. The album is available as digital download, you can buy it from iTunes, Amazon or directly from the band’s website. Funded by a Pledge Music campaign, Weights & Pulleys is also available physically (as CD and limited 12″vinyl LP), you can order your copy here.
The set of eleven songs is still streaming in its entirety over at Q Magazine Music. The band’s frontman and vocalist Jamie Sutherland also wrote a track-by-track guide to the album songs, so I strongly recoomend you head over and check out the album and feature yourself. Weights & Pulleys was recorded and produced by the band together with producers Garry Boyle and Tony Doogan (who produced and engineered the previous Broken Records LP Let Me Come Home) at The Depot Studios in Edinburgh.
The album track Toska was also featured on Broken Records’ previous EP of the same title, released on March 24, 2014 via J Sharp Records. The song also has a marvellous music video to go along with. The clip is directed, edited and produced by the fabulous handheldcineclub, watch it above. Broken Records only have two Scottish shows coming up this summer so far. Check out the dates below and watch a live performance of the album’s title track Weights & Pulleys the band did for Song, by Toad label Toad Sessions No. 32.
