New EP: RY X – Berlin (2013/08/09) / New Song ‘Vampires’

:: Perfect. There’s really nothing more to say.

RY X from Australia will release his Berlin EP (vinyl and digital) on August 28 through the Swedish label Dumont Dumont.

RY X is far more than his voice and an acoustic guitar. The fragility found in “Berlin” and its echoing vocals allows the darkness to emerge. The undulating feel of RY X voice, at times defeated, at others defiant, but it’s that constant transition between serenity and catharsis that makes “Berlin” something really special. New Album: Moderat – Moderat II (2013/08/02) [Full Stream] / First Single ‘Bad Kingdom’ [Official Music Video]

Just a couple of days left to bear till the second Moderat record will finally drop. The electronic supergroup is comprised of Sascha Ring bka Apparat and his long-time friends & producers Sebastian Szary and Gernot Bronsert, better known as Modeselektor. Fusing their respective musical styles – just as they did with the likes of their project names, Moderat released their brilliant self-titled debut in 2009 via Ellen Alien’s BPitch Control. Some years have passed, and last January the group finally announced the follow-up to be coming this summer. It’s simply entitled Moderat II and will be released on August 02, 2013 via Modeselektor’s own label Monkeytown Records. The record will be available as standard CD and LP [MTR035] as well as exclusive Deluxe Edition CD and 2xLP vinyl [MTR036]. The deluxe version includes the bonus track Last Night alongside a mediabook, the LP version will be offered as limited edition colour vinyl  in the Monkeytown Records webshop. Preorder all versions here.

Moderat II is exclusively streaming over at Head over and give a proper listen, I’m pretty sure you’ll love it!

Watch above the above official music video for the record’s first single Bad Kingdom. It’s a hand-drawn imagery telling a story of corruption and greed, produced and directed by the Berlin-based design collective Pfadfinderei. (Illustrated by Bernado Maldonado Morales, Daavid Mörtl, Benedikt Rugar, Arne Jysch and Moritz Friedrich.) Bad Kingdom was released as limited 10″ vinyl single and digital download on June 28 via Monkeytown [MTR034]. Both include an instrumental version of the marvellous track, the 10″ is exclusively available via the label webshop. Moderat will be touring with a new live show from August 02 going on throughout the year all over Europe with some gigs in the US. New Album: Weekend – Jinx (2013/07/22) / Tracks: Celebration, FL + Just Drive

:: Been listening to this record this whole past week now. Ten pulsating anthems compiled on one album that I can’t get enough of!

Jinx is the sonorous title of the sophomore offering  by Brooklyn’s Weekend. The post-punk/shoegaze trio formed in 2009 by school friends Shaun Durkan [vocals/bass/guitar] and Kevin Johnson [guitar] with drummer Taylor Valentino. Their debut Sports dropped in 2010 via Slumberland and earned them some serious praise by the critics. It was followed by 2011’s Red EP which already featured the babd’s new third man Abe Pedroza [drums]. After leaving high school,  Durkan and Johnson hat attended San Francisco Art Institute where Pedroza was Durkan’s room mate.

Weekend’s second full-length album Jinx was released in the UK/Europe on July 22, 2013 via Slumberland Records. US/North American released followed on July 23. The band spent most of 2012 writing, recording and mixing the ten songs of the record, once again with long-time friend and producer/engineer Monte Vallier at Ruminator. They also relocated from San Francisco to Brooklyn’s music scene to avoid any stagnation in their development. Vocalist Durkan described Jinx in this words: “Volatile. Cathartic. Bittersweet. The record is a collage of inspiration and ideas from each member of the band. Shards of experiences, images, smells, sounds molded into something we can collectively call ours.” (taken from the Slumberland website).

Ckeck out above my two favourite tracks which I have listened to over and over again last week: Celebration, FL and Just Drive. The first official single off Jinx is Mirror. Listen to it below together with the current single It’s Alright. Weekend will be touring the US in September, check out the entire schedule below.

Debut Single: Little May – Boardwalks [Official Video] (2013/07/01)

:: What couldn’t be more fitting for a hot and sunny day like this than this beautiful, airy song?

Little May are an indie-folk trio formed mid 2012 in Sydney, Australia. It was the passion for songwriting and musicmaking brought together Liz Drummond, Hannah Field and Annie Hamilton after leaving school. They are currently readying their self-titled debut EP which is due later this year as a self-release. Boardwalks is the first taste off of it and the girl’s debut single, released digitally worldwide on July 01, 2013.  You can download the song from iTunes. The song also comes with an official video that shows Liz, Hannah and Annie out in the sun, laughing, performing their beautiful song. It’s directed, edited and shot by Sean Dooley, the video was filmed in Mollymook, South Coast NSW. Boardwalks was recorded and mixed by Michael McGlynn and Sam Thomlinson at Vienna People Studios. Mastering engineer was William Bowden at King Willy Sound who also mastered Gotye’s award winning Making Mirrors.
