New Album: Bell X1 – Chop Chop (2013/06/29) [Full Album Stream]

:: One of my favourite records of this year so far. Thought it would be hard to keep up to the breathtakingly beautiful Careful What You Wish For, but it now appears to be but one of nine standout tracks assembled on one record.

Here we go today with the release of the fabulous new record by the three boys with guitars and drums and keyboards and singing. Don’t know who’s meant? Well, it’s Dave Geraghty [lead vocals/guitar/drums/percussion/ kazoo], Paul Noonan [lead guitar/banjo/(electric) piano/backing vocals] and Dominic Phillips [bass guitar/backing vocals] – better known as Bell X1. The have a reputation for a wide range of musical styles and brilliant live performances – and are the most aired band in their native country Ireland after U2.

On their new and sixth studio offering, they have stripped back layers of sound to a more simple yet brilliantly crafted songwriting. The record is entitled ‘Chop Chop’ and drops in Ireland today (June 28, 2013) via Belly Up Records. UK and European official release follows on July 01. The album is streaming in its entirety over at Paste Magazine. The nine songs were recorded in February at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut – produced by Thomas Bartlett and The National longtime producer Peter Katis.

While you can listen to the stunning Careful What You Wish For above, there’s also a new music video for the record’s first official single The End Is Nigh. The photo booth footage is created and edited by Eamon Nolan. Bell X1 are playing a sold-out record premiere show tomorrow at The National Concert Hall in Dublin, but there will be two other possibilities to hear the new songs live in Ireland during the next weeks, dates to be found below.
