Dexter Story – Underway (Love is)

:: Don’t it feel good?

Underway (Love Is) is the first track on Dexter Story’s debut album, ‘Seasons’.

Dexter Story pays tribute to his beloved Earth Wind & Fire with “Underway.” The Brazilian funk groove is undeniable and the vocal arrangement is Maurice and Phillip inspired.

New Album: Editors – The Weight of Your Love (2013/07/01)

:: Another love affair on first listen. A truly captivating record I have been playing in heavy rotation yesterday!

Editors are finally back with their fourth studio recording! The Birmingham alternative rock band led by frontman Tom Smith [lead vocals/guitar/piano] –  further currently comprised of Russell Leetch [bass/synths/vocals], Ed Lay [drums/percussion/vocals] and the two new members Justin Lockey [lead guitar] and Elliott Williams [keys/synths/guitars/vocals] – has not released new music since their fabulous 2009 album In This Light and on This Evening. Four years can be a long time to wait, but they’re over now. The band’s new LP is entitled ‘The Weight of Your Love’ and drops officially tomorrow (July 01, 2013) via Play It Again Sam / PIAS Recordings. While the album is available in Germany since June 28 already, US release will only follow on July 09. The LP is available in two different versions: standard and special edition. Check out track listing and cover for the latter below. Watch above the official video for the lead single A Ton of Love, released on June 24. The video is directed by Mark Thomas and produced by Tim Mullett.

‘The Weight of Your Love’  – the first Editors album after the departure of former lead guitarist Chris Urbanowicz in April 2012 – is produced by Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Norah Jones, Of Monsters And Men, Kings Of Leon) and mixed by Craig Silvey (Arctic Monkeys, The Horrors, Arcade Fire, Bon Iver). The songs were recorded last winter in Nashville, Tennessee, and the album was completed in April. Watch below the documentary on the album that’s featured on the special edition. Editors are playing the whole festival season in Europe and will start touring with their new offering afterwards in autumn, find the schedule further on in this post.

Big Black Delta – Huggin & Kissin / Debut Album ‘Big Black Delta’ (2013/06/28) [Full Album Stream]

:: Fabulous electronic stuff. Spin calls it pulsating and I have nothing to add.

Big Black Delta – that’s the new project moniker of Jonathan Bates, former frontman of Los Angeles lo-fi outfit Mellowdrone. His self-titled debut album was released in North America on April 30, 2013 via Bates own record label Masters of Bates. UK release followed on June 03, and yesterday the album finally dropped in Germany as well (June 28). The thirteen-track production is streaming in its entirety over at Spin, head over and give it a listen.

Listen above to my favourite track off the record, the fabulous Huggin & Kissin, and watch below the brilliant official video for the lead single Side Of The Road. It’s a masterpiece in black and white, somewhat reminding of a 8oies video game, and is directed by Warren Kommers. Big Black Delta is currently touring the States and will play a bunch of UK festivals in August. Find the schedule below where you can also check out the album track Money Rain Down.

New Album: Bell X1 – Chop Chop (2013/06/29) [Full Album Stream]

:: One of my favourite records of this year so far. Thought it would be hard to keep up to the breathtakingly beautiful Careful What You Wish For, but it now appears to be but one of nine standout tracks assembled on one record.

Here we go today with the release of the fabulous new record by the three boys with guitars and drums and keyboards and singing. Don’t know who’s meant? Well, it’s Dave Geraghty [lead vocals/guitar/drums/percussion/ kazoo], Paul Noonan [lead guitar/banjo/(electric) piano/backing vocals] and Dominic Phillips [bass guitar/backing vocals] – better known as Bell X1. The have a reputation for a wide range of musical styles and brilliant live performances – and are the most aired band in their native country Ireland after U2.

On their new and sixth studio offering, they have stripped back layers of sound to a more simple yet brilliantly crafted songwriting. The record is entitled ‘Chop Chop’ and drops in Ireland today (June 28, 2013) via Belly Up Records. UK and European official release follows on July 01. The album is streaming in its entirety over at Paste Magazine. The nine songs were recorded in February at Tarquin Studios in Bridgeport, Connecticut – produced by Thomas Bartlett and The National longtime producer Peter Katis.

While you can listen to the stunning Careful What You Wish For above, there’s also a new music video for the record’s first official single The End Is Nigh. The photo booth footage is created and edited by Eamon Nolan. Bell X1 are playing a sold-out record premiere show tomorrow at The National Concert Hall in Dublin, but there will be two other possibilities to hear the new songs live in Ireland during the next weeks, dates to be found below.
