Go Baby Go is the powerful lead track off the new EP by the band of Berlin’s indie pop/rock singer and songwriter David Jonathan. The four-piece is indeed named after its lead singer, but is comprised of four old friends whose own dynamics make up the band’s creative potential. Their debut four-track EP is entitled ‘Catskills’ and was out in Germany on April 12, 2013 via Nordpol Records. It’s streaming entirely over at Noisey, so head over and have a listen. Beautiful Day is the opening track on the new studio offering by Cleveland’s alternative folk singer and songwriter Joshua Radin. The follow-up to last year’s album ‘Underwater‘ is already his fifth studio offering, the eleven-track record is entitled ‘Wax Wings’ and was self-released on May 07, 2013. :: It’s the sunny side of disco!

Du Tonc is the name of a new indie-disco collaboration by Sydney’s Matt Van Schie (famously known as name giving member of Van She) and UK electronic producer Mighty Mouse. They supposedly met in a Paris cellar night club, and decided to collaborate. Du Tonc’s debut single Darkness (listen below) was released last January, and now they already have another tune out. The new single Surging Memories dropped on May 05, 2013 via Cheap Thrills. Du Tonc are having some worldwide live gigs/festivals coming up, check out the schedule below.

John Murry – California [Official Video] / Debut Solo Album ‘The Graceless Age’ (2013/05/06) [Full Album Stream]

California is the second single taken from the debut solo album by Mississippi-raised Americana singer, songwriter and guitarist John Murry. The record is entitled ‘The Graceless Age’ and it already was released in Australia and New Zealand last September via Spunk Records. Being a relative of Mississippi’s famous literary son William Faulkner, Murry comes out as classical songwriter in both music and lyrics. ‘The Graceless Age’ officially dropped in North America on April 02, 2013 via Evangeline Recording Co. UK and European release followed on May 06 via Rubyworks Ltd. The record is produced and recorded by John Murry and Tim Mooney in San Francisco. Additional production and recording was done by Kevin Cubbins in Memphis, Tennessee. All songs are streaming below via Murry’s Bandcamp.

The official video for California is directed by Jesse Brodkey and produced by Temerity Films (temerityfilms.com), a group of videographers who have collaborated with directors such as Wes Anderson and Tim Burton before (The Life Aquatic, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline). It’s the first music video for John Murry, as it is the first take on music video production for Temerity Films. California was filmed in San Francisco, “using super hi-def Canon C300 cameras at fast speeds and John was filmed walking and lip-syncing at one-quarter the speed of the song, and at two-point-five times faster, to create the ghostly and slightly disjointed effect.” [from the release note]

Evan & The Brave is an indie-pop quartet from Sydney, Australia. The band received its name from the middle name of vocalist Daniel Mifsud and is completed by Ben Rodgers, Ross James and Yanya Boston. Their debut single Lil Monster caught them some attention last year, and now it’s time for a new tune. The new single is entitled Stay This Way and was released on May 03, 2013 via Mucho Bravado. New Single: Fenech-Soler – Magnetic [Official Video] (2013/07/01)

:: Really love what these guys are doing!

Magnetic is the first official single to be taken from the upcoming sophomore album by Kings Cliffe’s electro-pop quartet Fenech-Soler. It follows two digital teaser singles, last year’s All I Know and the epic Maiyu released in March. Magnetic will be released as single on July 01. The new record is entitled ‘Rituals’ and will drop on September 02, 2013 via Warner Bros Records. The official video for Magnetic is directed by Luke Bellis. It lets vocalist Ben Duffy have a dreamlike trip through a surreal world, with time running backwards and being followed by a mysterious, Donnie Darko like rabbit man. Watch the vid above.

Jet Flower – that’s a folk-rock outfit from Copenhagen, Denmark. The four-piece is comprised of Jakob Gravlund [bass/backing vocals], Morten Puper [piano/synths/guitars/backing vocals], Mikkel Boström [vocals/guitars]and Johannes Gissel [drums/percussion]. Their debut album ‘We Walk Alike’ already was released in Denmark during summer 2012 via Target Distribution. The rest of Europe had to wait till ‘We Walk Alike’ finally saw its European release on May 10, 2013 via FÜR Records. The album is streaming in its entirety below (via the band’s Soundcloud). The official video for the first single The Last Broadcast is directed and edited by Von Hjorth. It was filmed last summer on location near Vig, Nordsjælland, watch it above.

Bibio – Dye the Water Green / New Album ‘Silver Wilkinson’ (2013/05/14)

:: Terrific record. Growing on every listen!

 

The stunning Dye the Water Green is my favourite track off of the upcoming new album by British electronic/experimental music producer Stephen James Wilkinson, more famously known under is moniker Bibio. The new record – already his seventh full-length offering – is entitled ‘Silver Wilksinson’. It was released in Australia on May 10, 2013 via Warp Records. North American release follows on May 14. The album is recorded and produced by Bibio himself – mostly in his own studio – and he also created the artwork for the record. On the label website, Bibio explains that he sometimes takes things outside while working on new music because the change of environment acts refreshing on the creative process. The recording of the album track À tout à l’heure for example started out in Bibio’s garden on a sunny day, and i think this shows. You can download the song for free here by entering your email, listen to it below.

On his Facebook page, Bibio released a handwritten note about the creation of ‘Silver Wilkinson’, in which he also writes about my album favourite: “With the song ‘Dye The Water Green’ (my personal favourite off the album) I remember going into my brick-wall shed in the garden for a change of scenery and to capture the sound of rain on the tin roof, I remember recording additional musical ideas around a guitar riff I had previously come up with, capturing them to an old ghetto blaster. I remember feeling at the time that I wouldn’t have come up with the same things if I was in my studio. I think putting yourself in different environments affects how you feel and act and essentially can lead to more variety.” Read the full note here, and check out below the current first single You.

New EP: Porcelain Raft – Silent Speech (2013/05/01) [Free Download]

:: A brilliant set of tracks! Quite different to last year’s debut, better!

 

‘Silent Speech’ is the title of the new EP by Brooklyn’s dream-pop producer Mauro Remiddi aka Porcelain Raft. He released his debut album ‘Strange Weekend‘ in January 2012 via Secretly Canadian, and now it is time for some new music. Remiddi is currently working on his sophomore LP, and he wanted to ensure that it’s going to sound different, so he simply sold off all his instruments and bought a single modular synthesizer. The result of his self-recorded sessions to learn his ways with the new mod is now released in shape of the five-track instrumental electronic EP ‘Silent Speech’, digitally released via Porcelain Raft’s Soundcloud on May 01, 2013. He spent a month recording the set which he comments with the additional words: “Language is often a defense.“. The EP is streaming in its entirety above via Soundcloud where all five songs can be downloaded for free separately.

New Album: Mikal Cronin – MCII (2013/05/07)

:: Just a couple of days and it’s already a heavy rotation candidate for best record of the year…

 

Weight is the terrific opener on the new album by San Francisco based singer and songwriter Mikal Cronin. The garage pop musician’s sophomore offering is entitled ‘MCII’ and was released in North America on May 07, 2013 via Merge Records – it’s his first release on his new label.  UK and European release will follow on May 13. Much has changed in Cronin’s life since his self-titled 2011 debut - not only that he left L.A. where he grew upm – and ’MCII’ reflects on this change and new beginnings. The record was recorded in San Francisco in late 2012 (except the home-recorded Don’t Let Me Go). It features several guest appearances including Ty Segall, and Cronin played all of the instruments. Jim Guthrie is a Canadian singer and songwriter born in Guelph, Ontario. The Toronto-based multi-instrumentalist has been busy making music since his debut in 1995 when he started out with self-produced cassettes. He worked both as solo artist and member of varying bands (Islands, Royal City, Human Highway), scored filmy and videogames. But it’s been ten years now since his last proper full-length offering, 2003′s Juno-nominated Now, More Than Ever. Time has come for another longplayer of Guthrie’s hand: the new record is entitled ‘Takes Time’ and was released Yesterday (May 07, 2013) via Static Clang. COMA – that’s Marius Bubat and Georg Conrad from Cologne, Germany. The duo signed to renown Cologne label Kompakt plays and produces electronic music – having released various singles and EP’s in the past years. My Orbit is the first official single taken from their anticipated debut full-length. The record is entitled ‘In Technicolor’ and was released on April 29, 2013 via Kompakt. It’s available as CD, vinyl LP and digital download. ‘In Technicolor’ is streaming in its entirety over at Spin, head over to have a full listen.

My Orbit was released as 12″ vinyl and digital download on March 25, featuring remixes from Clouds and Dauwd. New Album: The Phoenix Foundation – Fandango (2013/04/29) [Full Album Stream]

The Phoenix Foundation are an indie-rock six-piece from New Zealand’s capital Wellington. The band is comprised of Samuel Flynn Scott [vocals/guitar], Luke Buda [voacls/guitar/keys], Conrad Wedde [guitar/keys], Tom Callwood [bass], Will Ricketts [percussion] and Chris O’Connor [drums]. Wedde, Scott and Buda founded the band in 1997 when they were students at Wellington High School, the first EP followed in 2000. Thirteen years on, the band already is releasing their fifth record full-length. Entitled ‘Fandango’, the album dropped in New Zealand and Australia on April 26, 2013 via Universal Music. UK/European release followed on April 29 via Memphis Industries. North American release is now scheduled for May 15.

Known under their stage moniker Hiss Golden Messenger, they’ve just released their fourth studio album full-length. The record entitled ‘Haw’ dropped in North America on April 02, 2013 via the North Carolina label Paradise of Bachelors. UK and European release followed on April 21. Hiss Golden Messenger hit the road yesterday for a tour of the UK and Ireland together with Taylor’s Nashville friend William Tylor (who has released his new record ‘Impossible Truth’ a couple of days ago as well). It’s part of their ongoing ‘Practically Friends’ touring series, check out the upcoming dates below. Two more album tracks are waiting for ears below too, go check them out.
