New Single: Matt Corby – Resolution [Official Video]

:: Blown away by this song!

Resolution is the beautiful new single by Aussie singer and songwriter Matt Corby. The 23-years-old indie-folk musician has already gathered quite an enormous following, and now he’s finally readying his debut release full-length. Resolution is the first album single and foretaste to what’s to come. Nothing’s yet known about the album title and its release date, but the single already is available via iTunes, but in Australia and New Zealand only at the moment. It was released on May 22, 2013 via Universal Music Australia. Watch above the official video for Resolution, directed by Matt’s friend Bryce Jepson.

The song was written in a small LA apartment where Corby had been living the months before and where parts of the album were made. Matt spoke to triple j about the single: Resolution is inspired by his love/hate for Los Angeles and explained the conditions in which he wrote the song like this: “I got a little paranoid and I didn’t really leave the house for a couple of days. I couldn’t understand why I was so afraid of the world at this time so I wrote ‘Resolution’. It’s an ode to humanity and the way I want to be with other people and spread some love in an un-cheesy way.” Matt Corby hopes to start touring with his debut before the end of the year, so keep your eyes peeled for news.

Jimpster – Hold My Hand / New Album ‘Porchlight And Rocking Chairs’ (2013/05/20) [Preview]

:: A record that sounds like what it’s named for. All you need on a hot summer night…

 

Hold My Hand is taken from the new studio offering by prolific British deep house producer Jamie Odell aka Jimpster. The record entitled ‘Porchlight And Rocking Chairs’ is the first full-length offering of the Essex-based label owner of Freerange Records in six years. It was released on May 20, 2013 via Freerange. All tracks can be previewed below as one sound file (via Jimpster’s Soundcloud).

Rollergirl has been the first single taken off the album. It was released together with Hold My Hand as double a-side 12″ vinyl and digital download on April 19 via Freerange. The official music video for Rollergirl is produced and directed by Abbie Stephens, check it out below.

Sam Amidon – As I Roved Out [Official Video] / New Album ‘Bright Sunny South’ (2013/05/14)

As I Roved Out is one of my favourite tracks off the new record and the new single by Vermont-born and London-based folk musician Sam Amidon. The thirty-one year-old husband of British singer and songwriter Beth Orton is already releasing his fourth full-length studio offering, being the first on his new label Nonesuch Records. The album entitled ‘Bright Sunny South’ was released worldwide on May 14, 2013 via Nonesuch. The official video for As I Roved Out premiered on NPR.org a couple of days ago. It’s directed by John Hardwick, read more about it here. Sam Amidon is currently touring the UK and will head over for the US afterwards. Leagues – Lost It All / Debut Album ‘You Belong Here’ (2013/01/29) [Full Album Stream]

:: This record’s something like a celebration – pure joy!

Lost It All is my favourite track taken from the debut album by Leagues. The Nashville-based ethereal pop three-piece is comprised of Thad Cockrell [vocals], Tyler Burkum [guitars] and Jeremy Lutito [drums]. Leagues are aiming at nothing less than”bringing explosions of joy to the world through music“. If you wanna know more about the guys and the coming into being of their band, you should check out the about section of their homepage. It’s a really rewarding read. The band’s debut album ‘You Belong Here’ was released worldwide on January 29, 2013 via the band’s own Bufalotone Records. The album is streaming in its entirety over at MTV Hive. I suggest you head over and take a listen, you won’t regret it!

New Single: MONEY – Bluebell Fields [Official Video]

:: Incredible stuff. Really looking forward to more…

MONEY – that’s the name of a Manchester-based ethereal pop four-piece comprised of Jamie Lee [vocals], Charlie Cocksedge, Billy Byron and Scott Beaman. The guys created quite a fuzz last year when they sold out a series of local shows before they’d even had release one single. Followed by the successful release of two very limited 7″ vinyl singles (listen below to Solong (Godisdead)), this ultimately caused Simon Raymonde of Bella Union to track them down, resulting in the band’s signing to the famous British indie label. MONEY are currently finishing off their debut album which is due for release in late summer. Bluebell Fields is the first single off the debut and an amazing first taste of what’s to come. The dreamy, audio-visual official video is created by young director and animator Dan W. Jacobs, watch it above. MONEY are touring the UK in June, check out the upcoming concerts below.

She Changes The Weather is the new single by Birmingham’s indie-pop quartet Swim Deep. It was released on the ‘She Changes The Weather EP’ on May 13, 2013 via RCA Records / Chess Club Records which follows last March’s single The Sea. The EP includes a b-side track and a stripped back version of both The Sea and the new single. This release is another fine foretaste of Swim Deep’s upcoming debut album: the record entitled ‘Where The Heaven Are We’ will be released on July 29, 2013 via RCA/Chess Club. Du Tonc is the name of a new indie-disco collaboration by Sydney’s Matt Van Schie (famously known as name giving member of Van She) and UK electronic producer Mighty Mouse. John Murry – California [Official Video] / Debut Solo Album ‘The Graceless Age’ (2013/05/06) [Full Album Stream]

California is the second single taken from the debut solo album by Mississippi-raised Americana singer, songwriter and guitarist John Murry. The record is entitled ‘The Graceless Age’ and it already was released in Australia and New Zealand last September via Spunk Records. Being a relative of Mississippi’s famous literary son William Faulkner, Murry comes out as classical songwriter in both music and lyrics. ‘The Graceless Age’ officially dropped in North America on April 02, 2013 via Evangeline Recording Co. UK and European release followed on May 06 via Rubyworks Ltd. The record is produced and recorded by John Murry and Tim Mooney in San Francisco. Additional production and recording was done by Kevin Cubbins in Memphis, Tennessee. All songs are streaming below via Murry’s Bandcamp.

The official video for California is directed by Jesse Brodkey and produced by Temerity Films (temerityfilms.com), a group of videographers who have collaborated with directors such as Wes Anderson and Tim Burton before (The Life Aquatic, The Fantastic Mr. Fox, Coraline). It’s the first music video for John Murry, as it is the first take on music video production for Temerity Films. California was filmed in San Francisco, “using super hi-def Canon C300 cameras at fast speeds and John was filmed walking and lip-syncing at one-quarter the speed of the song, and at two-point-five times faster, to create the ghostly and slightly disjointed effect.” [from the release note]

Evan & The Brave is an indie-pop quartet from Sydney, Australia. The band received its name from the middle name of vocalist Daniel Mifsud and is completed by Ben Rodgers, Ross James and Yanya Boston. Their debut single Lil Monster caught them some attention last year, and now it’s time for a new tune. The new single is entitled Stay This Way and was released on May 03, 2013 via Mucho Bravado. New Single: Fenech-Soler – Magnetic [Official Video] (2013/07/01)

:: Really love what these guys are doing!

Magnetic is the first official single to be taken from the upcoming sophomore album by Kings Cliffe’s electro-pop quartet Fenech-Soler. It follows two digital teaser singles, last year’s All I Know and the epic Maiyu released in March. Magnetic will be released as single on July 01. The new record is entitled ‘Rituals’ and will drop on September 02, 2013 via Warner Bros Records. The official video for Magnetic is directed by Luke Bellis. It lets vocalist Ben Duffy have a dreamlike trip through a surreal world, with time running backwards and being followed by a mysterious, Donnie Darko like rabbit man. Watch the vid above.

Jet Flower – that’s a folk-rock outfit from Copenhagen, Denmark. The four-piece is comprised of Jakob Gravlund [bass/backing vocals], Morten Puper [piano/synths/guitars/backing vocals], Mikkel Boström [vocals/guitars]and Johannes Gissel [drums/percussion]. Their debut album ‘We Walk Alike’ already was released in Denmark during summer 2012 via Target Distribution. The rest of Europe had to wait till ‘We Walk Alike’ finally saw its European release on May 10, 2013 via FÜR Records. The album is streaming in its entirety below (via the band’s Soundcloud). The official video for the first single The Last Broadcast is directed and edited by Von Hjorth. Bibio – Dye the Water Green / New Album ‘Silver Wilkinson’ (2013/05/14)

:: Terrific record. Growing on every listen!

 

The stunning Dye the Water Green is my favourite track off of the upcoming new album by British electronic/experimental music producer Stephen James Wilkinson, more famously known under is moniker Bibio. The new record – already his seventh full-length offering – is entitled ‘Silver Wilksinson’. It was released in Australia on May 10, 2013 via Warp Records. North American release follows on May 14. The album is recorded and produced by Bibio himself – mostly in his own studio – and he also created the artwork for the record. On the label website, Bibio explains that he sometimes takes things outside while working on new music because the change of environment acts refreshing on the creative process. The recording of the album track À tout à l’heure for example started out in Bibio’s garden on a sunny day, and i think this shows. You can download the song for free here by entering your email, listen to it below.

On his Facebook page, Bibio released a handwritten note about the creation of ‘Silver Wilkinson’, in which he also writes about my album favourite: “With the song ‘Dye The Water Green’ (my personal favourite off the album) I remember going into my brick-wall shed in the garden for a change of scenery and to capture the sound of rain on the tin roof, I remember recording additional musical ideas around a guitar riff I had previously come up with, capturing them to an old ghetto blaster. I remember feeling at the time that I wouldn’t have come up with the same things if I was in my studio. New EP: Porcelain Raft – Silent Speech (2013/05/01) [Free Download]

:: A brilliant set of tracks! Quite different to last year’s debut, better!

 

‘Silent Speech’ is the title of the new EP by Brooklyn’s dream-pop producer Mauro Remiddi aka Porcelain Raft. He released his debut album ‘Strange Weekend‘ in January 2012 via Secretly Canadian, and now it is time for some new music. Remiddi is currently working on his sophomore LP, and he wanted to ensure that it’s going to sound different, so he simply sold off all his instruments and bought a single modular synthesizer. The result of his self-recorded sessions to learn his ways with the new mod is now released in shape of the five-track instrumental electronic EP ‘Silent Speech’, digitally released via Porcelain Raft’s Soundcloud on May 01, 2013. He spent a month recording the set which he comments with the additional words: “Language is often a defense.“. The EP is streaming in its entirety above via Soundcloud where all five songs can be downloaded for free separately.
